Your website layout must also represent your company / hobby and your public where you are aiming for.

Tips:

1) Make a clear layout
2) It must contain information that is usefull for your visitors
3) Not to much advertisement
4) Exchange links with other site's
5) Make it interesting for your visitors to stick around for longer then a few minutes.
6) Dont copy text from other website's because that will effect your findspot in for example google.
7) Good metha keywords

Step one (1) Make a domain name

First of all you must have a domain name you can register for example here:
active-domain
and you need also a server if you dont got that or a domain go here:
godaddy.com

This was the first step to your own website!
